A simple message...

This is just a simple message from the Venerable Master Hsuan Hua, just 4 lines, but how much truer can it be? Let this be a reminder to us all in our lives! =D

"Everything is a test,
To see what you will do.
If you do not recognise what's in front of you,
Then you'll have to start anew."

Words of wisdom from a great teacher!

Great words & nice blog. When I was a kid I used to tell everyone that everything happens for a reason. Now I'm a little wiser I instead say that there is a lesson to be found in everything that happens. In everything is the Dharma, the truth. We just have to open our eyes to see it. Thanks for sharing :)

Your post's Dharma verse spark a sense of nostalgia in me. I first read this verse in my teens. It seems like yesterday when I came across Ven Hsuan Hua's teachings some 15+ yrs ago as a kid. Being an ignorant innocent kid, I remember sending cash to US to buy a couple of Dharma books. A few weeks after, I happily received a pack of books with a handwritten letter from a Venerable telling me it's dangerous to send cash through mail. hehe... Many years later, abt 5 or more years ago, I finally made it to his main temple at San Francisco 'City of ten thousand Buddhas' to take part in a repentance retreat. Due to work commitments, I could only stayed for 7 days, out of the retreat's total 21 days. I must say that that experience was one of the most inspiring and memorable in my life. I felt I have went to paradise and back. Thank you Serene for your wonderful blog~

Wow u've been to CTTB?? How nice!! Its one of my dreams to go there one day! And i've to say that the Venerable's lectures are just wonderful to read, not only are they sources of inspiration to me, they're also my best teachers in life! Reading his lectures is like being there personally attending his talks..

Glad to have met fellow Dharma friends like you who have been touched by the Venerable and his teachings! =D
